The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has retained the Monetary Policy Rate (MPR), also known as the benchmark interest rate, at 26.50%. The decision was announced after the Bank’s 305th Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting.
The committee kept the interest rate unchanged as part of efforts to sustain macroeconomic stability, manage inflation, and support economic growth.
Other key monetary policy measures were also retained. The Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) remains at 45% for commercial banks and 16% for merchant banks, while the Liquidity Ratio stays at 30%.
In addition, the CBN maintained the Standing Facilities Corridor at +50/-450 basis points around the Monetary Policy Rate, leaving its monetary policy framework unchanged.
The Monetary Policy Rate is the CBN’s primary tool for managing inflation, regulating liquidity in the banking system, and promoting overall economic stability.
By keeping all major policy rates unchanged, the CBN signalled a cautious approach as it continues to monitor domestic and global economic conditions.
